St Joseph's CBS Primary, Sunday's Gate, Drogheda, Co. Louth
Principal’s Welcome
Céad míle fáilte go dtí St Joseph’s C.B.S.
We are a co-educational Catholic school, under the patronage of the Archdiocese of Armagh and the Edmund Rice Schools Trust. While proud of our Catholic heritage, we warmly welcome children of all faiths and none. At St Joseph’s, every child is valued, included, and encouraged to belong.
Our school is a place of learning, laughter and growth. We want our pupils to discover a real joy in learning, to develop their talents, and to be curious about the world around them. Whether through sport, music, art, drama, or play, we believe school should be fun and full of opportunities for every child to shine.
We work in close partnership with parents and families, fostering a strong sense of community where everyone is respected and supported. As a proud School of Sanctuary since March 2025, we also place great importance on nurturing values of fairness, justice, and care for others—both within our school and in the wider world.
St Joseph’s is more than just a school—it is a welcoming community where children feel safe, happy, and ready to achieve their best.
I invite you to explore our website to get a sense of the life, spirit and belonging that makes St Joseph’s C.B.S. so special.
Secondary School Experience Day.
5th and 6th classes participated in our first Secondary School Experience Day.
The pupils organised their books and materials and moved through four different lessons with various teachers. It gave them a feel for how a day in secondary school would work. A very enjoyable and beneficial experience.
Thanks to the teachers who stepped in today to take the lessons and Mr Carberry for organising such a worthwhile day for our lads before they head to secondary school. 💚💛
Newgrange Farm were delighted with the visit from R1 today. #schooltour 💚💛

Traveller Pride Week was celebrated in our school this week. It was a great chance for everyone to learn more about Traveller culture and heritage. There were loads of activities happening. One of the highlights was the active walkway scavenger hunt, where students went around the school finding and matching up translations of Cant words. It was a fun way to learn something new.
We also had an art competition where students created Traveller-inspired artwork. There were loads of brilliant entries. From beautiful drawings, handcrafted beady pockets to 3d constructed wagons, it was wonderful to see everyone’s ideas and creativity.
At the end of the week, we had a whole-school assembly. There was a short presentation about Traveller culture, and the School of Sanctuary did a play and sang “Tinker’s Lullaby,” which everyone really enjoyed. We were also happy to welcome primary health care workers from the Drogheda Primary Health Care Programme for Travellers. To finish everything off, Martin played the harmonica and got a rousing applause, which was a really nice way to end the week.
Thank you so much to Ms Murphy for making this week so enjoyable and for all your hard work. We all really enjoyed learning about the Traveller culture and heritage. She also managed to squeeze in a radio interview about Traveller Pride. We're so proud of you.
