Principal’s Welcome

Céad míle fáilte go dtí St Joseph’s C.B.S.

We are a co-educational Catholic school, under the patronage of the Archdiocese of Armagh and the Edmund Rice Schools Trust. While proud of our Catholic heritage, we warmly welcome children of all faiths and none. At St Joseph’s, every child is valued, included, and encouraged to belong.

Our school is a place of learning, laughter and growth. We want our pupils to discover a real joy in learning, to develop their talents, and to be curious about the world around them. Whether through sport, music, art, drama, or play, we believe school should be fun and full of opportunities for every child to shine.

We work in close partnership with parents and families, fostering a strong sense of community where everyone is respected and supported. As a proud School of Sanctuary since March 2025, we also place great importance on nurturing values of fairness, justice, and care for others—both within our school and in the wider world.

St Joseph’s is more than just a school—it is a welcoming community where children feel safe, happy, and ready to achieve their best.

I invite you to explore our website to get a sense of the life, spirit and belonging that makes St Joseph’s C.B.S. so special.

Is mise le meas,

Sarah Bradley

Traveller Pride Week was celebrated in our school this week. It was a great chance for everyone to learn more about Traveller culture and heritage. There were loads of activities happening. One of the highlights was the active walkway scavenger hunt, where students went around the school finding and matching up translations of Cant words. It was a fun way to learn something new. We also had an art competition where students created Traveller-inspired artwork. There were loads of brilliant entries. From beautiful drawings, handcrafted beady pockets to 3d constructed wagons, it was wonderful to see everyone’s ideas and creativity. At the end of the week, we had a whole-school assembly. There was a short presentation about Traveller culture, and the School of Sanctuary did a play and sang “Tinker’s Lullaby,” which everyone really enjoyed. We were also happy to welcome primary health care workers from the Drogheda Primary Health Care Programme for Travellers. To finish everything off, Martin played the harmonica and got a rousing applause, which was a really nice way to end the week. Thank you so much to Ms Murphy for making this week so enjoyable and for all your hard work. We all really enjoyed learning about the Traveller culture and heritage. She also managed to squeeze in a radio interview about Traveller Pride. We're so proud of you. #travellerprideweek #upthejoes💚💛
Eid Mubarak to all in our community who are celebrating today.

Our Super Senior infants bringing the farm into the classroom and creating some butterfly 🦋 art. Aren't they just amazing 😍
Our super troopers tidying the town as part of National Spring Cleaning day. Mr Hughes set out an area for each year group and they covered from our school all the way to the Glen! Well done everyone. #upthejoes💚💛

Congratulations to all the boys and girls who made their First Holy Communion in the Lourdes Church this morning. Every single one of you did an amazing job. The singing, prayer readers, tin whistlers, gift bearers, candle lighters was outstanding. Your hard work really paid off and it was a beautiful ceremony from start to finish. We are so proud of you all and hope you enjoy the rest of this very special day.
⚽️ Goals, Grit, and Golden Sunshine! ☀️ What a day at Sullivan and Lambe Park! On Tuesday, we hosted the 8th annual Peter O’Reilly Memorial Soccer Tournament, and it’s safe to say the talent on display was next level. 👟✨ With 12 teams bringing the heat, the atmosphere was packed with suspense and skill from the first whistle to the last. The Highlights: 🏆 Champions: A massive congratulations to Scoil Olibhéir Naofa, who took home the title after a hard-fought 2-0 win against a fantastic St. Paul’s side! 🏅 Spirit of the Game: The Sportsmanship Award went to Tullyallen NS. They perfectly embodied the fair play and respect that this tournament is all about. ✨ A Special Moment: We were honored to have Peter’s sister, Veronica Brannigan, join us to present the trophy. A Huge Thank You To: 🙌 Aoife Page & @droghedaunitedfc for letting us play on your incredible grounds. 🙌 Greenhills Summer Camp for the generous sponsorship of all our medals and trophies. 🙌 Every school, player, and supporter who made the 8th edition one to remember! See you all next year! ⚽️🔥 #YouthSoccer #PeterOReillyMemorial #DroghedaUnited #GrassrootsFootball
Last week we got to celebrate the fantastic Katie from 3rd class who has raised €1500 by cutting her hair and donating it to the Locks of Love for LauraLynn. A fantastic charity and a fantastic young girl wanting to help. We are so proud of you Katie. What an inspiration 👏🙌
As part of the Creative Connections programme, some students from 3rd and 4th class attended the celebration day at Guildhall. The celebration day celebrated schools who took part in the cross-border arts project 2025-2026, bringing together 40 schools and artists to explore creativity, connect through the arts, and share their learning journeys. Students participated in a range of creative activities throughout the day while celebrating the friendships, ideas and experiences developed through the programme. We are very proud of our students for representing our school so positively and for embracing the creativity, collaboration and connection at the heart of the programme😊
Ms Glacken’s junior infant class have been busy tending to their ‘lawns’ over the past few weeks. They learned that grass needs water, soil and sunlight to grow and enjoyed ‘mowing’ the grass with scissors. They also recently planted herbs in the school garden and sunflowers in the classroom. We can’t wait to watch them grow. #upthejoes💚💛
Active Week, the gift that keeps on giving. Our 5th and 6th class made the trip to Termonfeckin and tried out some tennis termonfeckintennisclub and then were treated to a boxing lesson from Rocky himself, @padraigmccullough of Tredagh Boxing Club. More exposure to the fantastic facilities around us and yet another day where every child got involved, kept active and had fun. Thanks again to Mr Carberry for all the organising @active_school_flag #asw26
